The Sense of Smell

When you breathe aroma molecules into the nose they stimulate receptors in your brain to have three responses. The first being olfactory nerve signaling which happens very quickly in determining if something is an advantage or threat to you. The next is an emotion response which is different for everyone and based on their own experiences. The last is a biological response which is the same for everyone and happens when the molecules travel directly to the brain itself through the olfactory nerve.

As you can imagine this constant stimulus can be a lot for your brain. To avoid overloading your nervous system after a few minutes the olfactory receptors stop sending messages to the brain about lingering aromas so it can pay more attention to new aromas. This is known as olfactory adaptation and why after a while you stop noticing aromas that are in your immediate vicinity.

Essential Oils

Essential oils are a high concentration of a plants essence or aromatic substance that have been distilled from plant material. They are highly concentrated (50-100 times more concentrated than the plant alone). It takes a large quantity of plant material to make essential oils; for example it takes about 50 rose flowers to make 1 drop of rose essential oil. They are also NOT the same as fragrance oils, which are synthetic creations trying to mimic an essential oil or other plant that does not not have essential oil.

Chakras

The chakra's are energy wheels that receive and transmit energy into the physical body. There are seven master chakras. Starting from the base of the spine is Root and moving up the center of the body is Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third Eye, and Crown at the top of the head. When these energy wheels become disrupted or blocked, dis-ease occurs in the body. Keeping the chakra system cleared and balanced helps to maintain optimum health.
